Matthew 20:15 "Is it against the law for me to do what I want with my money? Should you be jealous because I am kind to others?"
Let me set this verse up for you... it is from a story that Jesus told. A farmer hired some people early one morning and told them he would give them a day's wages. Throughout the day he hired more workers.. Some at lunch, some at mid-afternoon and some about an hour before work ended. In the end all the workers were paid the same. The all day workers were up-set and protested and the verse above was the farmers answer.
When I have read these verses I would get lost too in what was fair. But today I was writing these verses and I got caught up in the "Should you be jealous because I am kind to others?" part.
When we love others, and we are called to love others, we are suppose to want them to have all that is possible for them. So often we are jealous of what others have when we have all that we need, when we all that we could really want. So often we just want to be wanting. Jesus had a moment when He wanted to be delivered from dieing on the cross for us. But because he loved us so much, even in our sin, when we didn't love Him back, He put His wants aside for us!! How can we stop and think about that and allow ourselves to be jealous of others.
I hope that I will forever see jealously in me as the devil working to take away love from my life. I hope I am able, from today forward, to recognize that feeling of jealously as an attack on the love that Jesus died so that I could have that love overflowing in me. I hope that from today forward that I am able to feel only pride for others because they have something I don't have. I will strive to be glad for others, because of love. I will notice, pay attention to, be thankful for all that God has given me and know that it is enough!!
