Luke 10:33-34 "Then a despised Samaritan came along, and when he saw the man, he felt compassion for him. Going over to him the Samaritan soothed his wounds with olive oil and wine and bandaged them. Then he put the man on his own donkey and took him to an inn, where he took care of him."
My Thoughts
It is easy to take care of people we love, that love us... well most the time it is... the true test of our character is how we take care of the people that we don't know or love... how we take care of the people that we don't like!.... My son once said "our neighbor is the hardest person to love, because they live so close we know all their faults, they are the person so close that they can get on our nerves the most"... the person that we like the least is the person that we are suppose to love as much as we love ourselves.... that is what the Samaritan did... he took care of a person that despised him... he loved his neighbor... In Luke 25-27 when one of the religious leaders ask Jesus "What do I do to inherit eternal life?"... Jesus reminded him that he knew what he was suppose to do...and the man said that you are to "love the Lord with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength, and all your mind. And, "love your neighbor as yourself."... Jesus said there are two things we must do to get into heaven... one was to love God...now that is easy, look how much God loves us, the second one is that hard one... it is to love the person that doesn't even like us.... to pray for them, to do for them, to be kind to them... to love them as much as we love ourselves....even if they are not being kind to us.... I know this sounds hard but remember "All things are possible through God." Matthew 9:26 even loving your neighbor.

Oh Jeannie, I love this verse and your thoughts on it. It is so true. Something that helps me to "love" the "unlovable" is I think to myself, what happened in this persons life, what have they gone through that made them this way. Then I love them, and have compassion for them. Maybe they are just mean spirited because that's the way they are wired.. but, maybe something happened in the way they were raised? Or, something happened as they were growing up.. or whatever. We never know. I have yet to meet someone (a nasty someone) that when I get to know them, there hasn't been something that has scared them somewhere along the path. Also, God our Father, loves each and every one of us, who are we to not love someone. Love, love, love this verse.
